WINDSOR — Hayley Blowers will be remembered Sunday at a special concert to raise money to support a new foundation that will work to prevent other teens from following her path.

“A Concert of Hope,” concert, set for 3 p.m. at the Windsor Fairgrounds, will feature six local bands as well as several solo performances.

Blowers was 16 and a junior at Erskine Academy when she committed suicide April 4 at her home in Palermo. She also attended Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta, and had spent her freshman year at a Massachusetts high school.

Proceeds will benefit Hayley’s Hope Foundation, set up by Blower’s family members and support two scholarships to be given out next spring at the two high schools Hayley attended: Erskine and Lynn (Mass.) Vocational & Technical Institute.

“The graduation of 2012 will be an especially meaningful one, as it would have been Hayley’s class,” according to the foundation’s Web page, hayleyshopefoundation.org/.

“In memory of Hayley, it is going to be our pleasure to award the first scholarships to her fellow classmates,” the message reads. “It is our hope to award a scholarship to both schools for many, many years to come!”

“My sisters and I have taken the pain from her loss and turned it into forming a nonprofit foundation focusing on teen suicide awareness and a scholarship fund,” said Raini Perry, Hayley’s mother, who also is executive director of the foundation.

The family is promoting the concert through interviews with local radio stations.

The foundation’s mission is to create awareness of the issue of teenage suicide and its warning signs, triggers and impact on family and the community.

“This will be accomplished through education and provision of resources for professional help to parents/guardians, educators, peers, and most importantly, those currently in distress,” according to the foundation.

Information at the concert will be available on suicide prevention and on help lines.
