BIDDEFORD — A walkway offering vistas of the Saco River and its falls is evolving from plans to reality.

Work is to soon begin on the Biddeford RiverWalk, which city boosters have been talking about for more than three years.

The Journal Tribune of Biddeford says construction of the $550,000 project was approved July 19 by City Council. The contract went to Maietta Enterprises Inc. of Scarborough.

A large portion of the money will be used to repair a river wall that was damaged by past storms and has been in disrepair for several years. But the centerpiece will be construction of the Gateway Plaza RiverWalk entrance, which will provide an overlook of the river. The walk will also include benches.
