RICHMOND, Va. — The Portland Sea Dogs scored three runs in the fifth inning to break open a tie game and beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels in an Eastern League game Sunday.

In the fifth, Ryan Khoury hit an RBI single to break a 1-1 tie. Will Middlebrooks added a two-run single.

Two batters into the game, Khoury homered over the center field wall to give Portland a 1-0 lead. Richmond tied it in the second, when Juan Perez led off with a double and scored when Wendell Fairley reached on an error by Portland shortstop Heiker Meneses.

Portland added three more runs in the ninth when when Mark Wagner’s fly ball with runners on second and third was dropped, allowing a run to score. Middlebrooks then doubled to drive in a run and Wagner scored on a wild pitch.

Alex Wilson earned the win for Portland, allowing one run on six hits in six innings of work. He struck out five.
