WATERVILLE — The Central Maine Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association and the Waterville’s Parks and Recreation Department will offer a weekend of family fun and celebration for off-road bicyclists of all ages and abilities.

The Central Maine Mountain Bike Festival will be held Aug. 27 and 28 at the Quarry Road Recreation Area as part of the Maine NEMBA Experience series.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. Aug. 27 and group rides for all levels will be at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be pizza for lunch and a cookout from 5 to 7 p.m. along with music by the Steve Vellani Duo from 6 to 9 p.m.

On Sunday, breakfast, followed by a 9 a.m. time trial competition and another group ride at the Bond Brook Trails in Augusta at 11 a.m. will wrap up the festivities on Sunday. Camping is encouraged and donations to support local trails will be accepted.

Other activities include geocaching, a climbing wall, and children’s bicycle obstacle course. The nearby North Street Recreation Area also provides opportunities for kayaking on Messalonskee Stream, the North Street Pool, showers, a children’s playground and nearby ice cream shop. Group rides will offer fun and challenge for seasoned mountain bikers and beginners alike on some of Central Maine’s best trails, including miles of singletrack.
