I was very happy to see in a recent Morning Sentinel that the three buildings in Skowhegan on the corner of Madison Avenue and Commercial Street have been purchased and eventually will be taken down and a park put in their place.

Now we need to have an individual come forward and purchase the former Solon Manufacturing building on the island and do the same. I think that is more of an eyesore than the other three.

When visitors come to our town and cross the bridges, they see this huge brick building that has been vacant since Solon Manufacturing moved years ago. Buyers have had plans for it, but they couldn’t seem to make it work.

If that building wasn’t there, anyone coming over the bridges would have a beautiful view of the Kennebec River and the dam. Also the three homes behind the building would now be seen.

It would make a great park — maybe even a spot that the town’s Indian could be moved to.

If no individual wants to purchase it, maybe the town residents could raise funds to buy and tear down the Solon Manufacturing building. I would be willing to put up the first $1,000 toward that fund. Anyone else interested?
