FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington announces the following October events. All events are free and open to the public.

* National Student Day will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday. Cram the Van on the Green with non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products for the local food pantry. There will be promotions and prizes at the University Store to celebrate students’ involvement and service to the community. For more information, call 778-7347.

* Magician David Hall will perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 15, at Nordica Auditorium, UMF Merrill Hall. Hall’s award-winning performances are full of high-energy comedy, and magic. The costume contest will have categories for: most resourceful, best couple, best group, best homemade, funniest, scariest/creepiest. Admission is free for students and costs $5 for nonstudents.
