FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington announces the following October events. All events are free and open to the public.

* National Student Day will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday. Cram the Van on the Green with non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products for the local food pantry. There will be promotions and prizes at the University Store to celebrate students’ involvement and service to the community. For more information, call 778-7347.

* There will be a human trafficking presentation to raise awareness. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Landing, UMF Olsen Student Center. The program is sponsored by UMF Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. For more information, email [email protected] or call 778-8190.

* The movie “Hangover 2” will be shown at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at The Landing, UMF Olsen Student Center. The event is presented by Popcorn Cinema and sponsored by UMF Campus Residence Council. For more information, email [email protected], or call 778-8190.

* Magician David Hall will perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 15, at Nordica Auditorium, UMF Merrill Hall. Hall’s award-winning performances are full of high-energy comedy, and magic. * Poetry Slam will begin at 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at The Landing, UMF Olsen Student Center. Students are encouraged to come and participate. The event is sponsored by UMF Slam Poetry Club. For more information, email [email protected] or call 778-8190.

* Indie Girls will perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 26, at The Landing, UMF Olsen Student Center. The concert is sponsored by The Alliance.

* The Halloween Dances will begin at 10 p.m. Oct. 28 at South Dining Hall, UMF Olsen Student Center. DJ services will be provided by Greg Young and Northeast DJs. The costume contest will have categories for: most resourceful, best couple, best group, best homemade, funniest, scariest/creepiest. Admission is free for students and costs $5 for nonstudents.
