BELGRADE LAKES — Organizers of Oktoberfest have invited the School Street Band to finish off the day’s activities with a concert.

Jessica Moore, recreation director at the Community Center for All Seasons, said the Augusta-based band, which plays a mix of classic rock, country and rhythm-and-blues, will play at the center from 5-7 p.m. Saturday The concert, which includes a barbecue, costs $10 for adults, $5 for children. Children younger than 5 are free.

“Back in the day, the business group put events on down in the village, but we’ve decided to have some activities (at the center), too,” Moore said.

She said morning events will be in the village. Activities will take place at the center, on Route 27 a half-mile south of the village, from 2 to 5 p.m. She said the concert and barbeque will close out the festivities.

Activities in the village start at 8 a.m. and include hay rides, arts and crafts for kids, restaurants and stores featuring fall specials, fall face painting, a foliage cruise on the Melinda Ann Education Boat, a flea market and free ginger snaps and cider.

From 2 to 5 p.m. the community center will have a bounce house, pumpkin bowling, arts and crafts, apple dunking, pumpkin carving, scarecrow making and a number of demonstrations including karate and cheering.

“The kids love the pumpkin carving, obviously, that’s a huge thing,” Moore said. “And they love the pumpkin bowling and bounce house and the pony express. It’s a lot of fun. The kids get to feed the animals.”

Moore said the Belgrade Lakes Region Business Group, in collaboration with the community center, sponsors the daylong event.

She said the center’s after-school program will hold a bake sale. Children enrolled in the program want to buy a Ping-Pong table, she said.
