PORTLAND — A conservative group that advocates for smaller government is launching its “cut spending sidewalk tour” soliciting people’s opinions on where state government can cut spending.

Maine People Before Politics is kicking off its tour today in front of the Portland post office on Forest Avenue.

Volunteers are asking people where they think government spending should be cut as a legislative task force seeks to identify $25 million in spending cuts required in the most recent state budget.

Executive Director Jason Savage says the opinions will be integrated into a report that will be passed on to the task force. He says the tour gives a voice to people who can’t attend task force hearings in Augusta.

Future events are planned in Lewiston and Bangor.
