THORNDIKE — Mt. View secured a home playoff game and knocked off previously unbeaten Belfast with a 1-0 victory in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.

Mt. View is 10-0-1 in its past 11 games and 11-2-1 overall. The Mustangs appear headed for the No. 3 spot in the upcoming Eastern B playoffs and likely would host Foxcroft in a quarterfinal game Tuesday. Belfast is 10-1-3. The Lions will play Nokomis in today’s KVAC B championship game at Colby.

Brittany Masessa scored Mt. View’s goal with about 20 minutes left in the game. There was a scramble in front, and the ball popped out to Masessa near the top of the circle. She made a quick dribble to her right and then fired a shot into the cage past Belfast goalie Sierra Wood (eight saves).

Mt. View’s Abbie Charrier made two saves, and both came back-to-back late in the second half. After Charrier’s second save, Belfast got a shot past her, but Mt. View back Anna Piotti laid out and blocked the shot with her stick.

“That was Anna through and through,” Mt. View coach Gloria Hewett said. “She’s really good at seeing that coming. She sees the ball really well. It was a typical ‘Anna flying somewhere to get the ball’ save.”

MCI 2, Mt. Blue 1, OT: Caroly Newhouse scored from Katelyn Sousa with three seconds left in overtime as the Huskies beat the Cougars in a KVAC B game in Pittsfield.
