AUGUSTA — A China man was indicted Friday by a grand jury in Kennebec County Superior Court on charges relating to a home invasion last summer in which a woman was sexually assaulted.

James A. Bickford, 33, who police said lived in the victim’s apartment before she did, was indicted on charges of robbery, gross sexual assault, burglary and assault in connection with the July 29 attack in China.

According to an affidavit by Kennebec County Sheriff’s Detective David Bucknam, the 21-year-old victim locked her residence on Dirigo Road at approximately 10:20 p.m., after her husband left for work.

Ten minutes later, a man came in the door, his face disguised by a ski mask. He demanded money and threatened to pull out a gun.

He sexually assaulted her, the affidavit said. She was later able to escape to a neighboring house. Bickford was arrested shortly after.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it is an indication that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with formal charges and a trial in superior court.

A number of other people were indicted Friday:

* Roberson Antoine, 37, of Gardiner, three counts of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, between Feb. 17 and Feb. 22 in Augusta.

* Michael W. Bowden, 28, of Augusta, two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs: Dec. 15, in Farmingdale; and Jan. 25, in Augusta.

* Frank R. Bowman Jr., 49, of Fairfield, five counts each of burglary, theft by unauthorized taking and criminal mischief, and one count of burglary of a motor vehicle, between Feb. 25 and Aug. 9, all in Waterville.

* Ronald E. Chapman, 48, of Richmond, two counts each of domestic violence assault and violation of condition of release, and one count each of obstructing report of crime or injury assault, criminal mischief, and failure to report to jail, all between July 5 and July 21 in Augusta.

* Leland Carl Connor, 53, of Buckfield, aggravated criminal trespass and assault July 5 in Farmingdale.

* Celine M. Davis, 43, formerly of West Gardiner and now of Lewiston, two counts of theft by misapplication of property between Jan. 19, 2006, and Feb. 14, 2011, in Augusta.

* Joseph N. Deer, 30, of Augusta, aggravated criminal operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, both July 30 in Gardiner.

* Daniel R. Dill, 21, of Gardiner, arson July 1 in Augusta.

* Dalton E. Farrington, 20, of Litchfield, two counts each of burglary and theft by unauthorized taking, all April 22 in Litchfield.

* Bonnie Lee French, 39, of Windsor, theft by unauthorized taking and failure to give correct name July 18 in Waterville, trafficking in prison contraband April 21, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violating condition of release July 27, failure to report to jail June 19 and another count of theft by unauthorized taking July 26, all in Augusta.

* Nathan J. Hansell, 20, of Augusta, burglary, attempted theft and possession of burglary tools, all Sept. 20 in Fayette.

* Jason X. Haskell, 31, of Augusta, aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, two counts of aggravated unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs, and five counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, all between March 11 and April 2 in Waterville.

* Robert Horr, 51, of Augusta, kidnapping, aggravated assault, domestic violence terrorizing and criminal restraint, all between July 31 and Aug. 2 in Augusta.

* Damien Lee, 21, of Waterville, gross sexual assault Aug. 23 in Waterville.
