WATERVILLE — Fifteen girls from across central Maine recently attended the Adventure Girls event Sound the Alarm!, a Hardy Girls Healthy Women program. At the event girls ranging from second to sixth grade learned about women firefighters from Vicki Schmidt, firefighter and Maine state fire instructor.
The program is designed to expand girls’ horizons by introducing them to women in male dominated fields, such as science, technology, trades and rescue services.
