CHELSEA — A Randolph woman injured in a River Road crash Wednesday continues to recover at a Lewiston hospital.
Jackolin Gessner, 22, was in good condition at Central Maine Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Gessner was flown to the hospital by LifeFlight of Maine with a severe arm injury Wednesday after crashing her Jeep while talking on a cell phone.
“She just wasn’t paying attention,” said Maine State Police Trooper Greg Stevens.
Gessner was talking on the phone to her boyfriend as she drove north around 4:15 p.m. Gessner lost control of her 2001 Jeep Wrangler near Skyline Drive.
“She drifted to the right and struck a guardrail,” Stevens said.
The Jeep crossed back over the road, slid into a ditch and went onto its side before crossing a driveway and being knocked in the air when it hit a tree.
Gessner was ejected and stopped with the jeep on top of her.
“Witnesses saw her thrown out of the vehicle,” Stevens said. “If she had been wearing a seat belt she probably would have walked away.”
