Central Maine Power Co. reported a large power outage in parts of Franklin County and one Kennebec County town shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
John Carroll, spokesman for the company, said the outage was because of equipment failure.
“A mobile substation in use at the Sturtevant substation quit and failed,” Carroll said, adding he was not sure why. The substation is on Farmington Falls Road, or U.S. Route 2, in Farmington.
As of Tuesday at 6:15 p.m., power was out in Chesterville, Farmington, Industry, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Temple, Vienna and Wilton, according to the company’s website.Power was expected to be restored Tuesday night, according to the company’s outage reporting line.
CMP serves approximately 600,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in central, western and southern Maine through more than 200 substations.
