BETHEL — Austin Kane hit eight 3-pointers and scored a game-high 31 points as the Madison boys basketball team beat Telstar 69-66 in the Mountain Valley Conference season-opener for both teams Friday night.

Down 20-11 after one quarter, Madison (1-0) rallied and took the lead in the second half. Dylan Price hit a big 3-pointer with two minutes left to push the Bulldogs’ lead to five points. Price had 11 points, while M.J. Flanders added 10.

Dom Haines led Telstar (0-1) with 18 points.

Lawrence 80, Brewer 57: Tim Dudley had 10 assists and Spencer Carey scored 27 points as the Bulldogs led by 16 after one quarter and cruised to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A victory in Fairfield.

Nick Noiles added 10 points for Lawrence (1-0), and three other players scored at least eight.
Matt Cuskelly (16 points) and Brendon Newcomb (13) each scored in double figures for Brewer (0-1).

Vinalhaven 57, Forest Hills 56: Dillon Ames hit a baseline jumper with two seconds left to lift the Vikings to a season-opening victory over the Tigers in Jackman.

Ames finished with a team-high 17 points for Vinalhaven (1-0). Brian Stanley and Steven Osgood each added 11.

Evan Worster, who hit a foul shot with 10 seconds left to give Forest Hills (0-1) a one-point lead, finished with a game-high 23 points. Brandon Ouellette added 12 points and Matt Turner had nine.

Valley 60, Buckfield 50
: Carrington Miller scored 15 points, added 15 rebounds and blocked three shots to lead the Cavaliers to the East-West Conference win in Buckfield.

Josh West led all scorers with 26 points and also had nine rebounds for Valley (1-0). Caleb Wade added seven points and eight assists.

Buckfield (0-1) was led by Austin Dooley with 21 points and Trevor Averill with 15.

Mt. Blue 92, Skowhegan 44: Nick Hilton scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Cougars cruised to the KVAC A win.

Cam Sennick had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Mt. Blue (1-0). Eric Berry added 15 points and six assists for the Cougars.

Levi Barnes led Skowhegan (0-1) with 15 points.

Waterville 74, MCI 34: Justin Jabar hadd 23 points, including five 3-pointers as the Mules won their season-opener in Pittsfield.

Brandon Braley added 15 points for Waterville (1-0).

Trey Vinntiner had 11 points for MCI (0-1).

Erskine 68, Messalonskee 51: Shyler Scates scored 25 points as Erskine pulled away to beat Messalonskee in the season-opener for both teams in South China.

Devin Duncan added 12 points and Tom Grady had 10 for Erskine (1-0).

Riley Wentworth had 12 points, including four 3-pointers in the first half for Messalonskee (0-1). Elijah Steele added 10 points.
