Program offers The Gift of Gardiner

GARDINER — Gardiner Main Street seeks to boost local economy with “The Gift of Gardiner” this holiday season.

During the season, Gardiner Main Street is making it a little easier for support local businesses by giving The Gift of Gardiner.

Patrick Wright, executive director of the Gardiner Main Street program, said at least 30 local merchants have agreed to accept the gift in its inaugural year.

Gift checks are available at The Bank of Maine’s Gardiner branch, located at 190 Water St., beginning Monday.

The gift checks are worth $20, and come with a list of participating merchants.

“We think we’ve created a program that helps people feel really good about the gifts they give their friends and family,” Wright said. “Downtown is the cultural and commercial hub of this community. In order to maintain vibrancy, the community needs to support the businesses located here. Now there’s an easy, flexible way to do that.”
