LITCHFIELD — A Chelsea man is facing charges after crashing his car on Lewiston Road Saturday morning.

Michael Robert Trytek, 27, was charged with operating under the influence and refusing to submit to arrest or detention. Trytek was being held Monday at the Kennebec County jail in lieu of $1,200 cash bail.

Trytek was driving his 1997 Ford Escort east around 1 a.m. Saturday when he veered off the road and struck a utility pole, said Capt. Daniel Davies of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

A passenger, Rainbow Cunningham, 27, of Augusta, was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center with what were believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries.

“Trytek, who was suspected of OUI at the time, also sustained minor injuries but refused to go by ambulance,” Davies said. “Trytek also attempted to fight with (Kennebec County Sheriff Deputy Nathan) McNally, but was subdued without further incident.”

McNally took Trytek to the hospital while in custody.

“Trytek later became combative at the hospital and at one point attempted a somersault from his bed,” Davies said. “That resulted in additional head injuries.”
