AUGUSTA — Maine residents who use oil to heat their homes are getting a little relief.

The governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security reports that the statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil has dropped by a penny to an average of $3.63 per gallon in the past week.

The lowest prices were in western portions of the state while the highest prices were in the north.

The office found heating oil selling for as low as $3.39 per gallon and as high as $3.85.

Kerosene was averaging $4.03 a gallon, while propane was going for $3.12 a gallon.

Officials warn that prices are likely to go up due to increased demand as winter sets in.
