PORTLAND — The Maine Red Claws announced Wednesday they claimed NBA veteran and former Boston Celtic Ricky Davis from the NBA Development League’s available player pool.

Davis is expected to join the Red Claws in Canton, Ohio when they face the Canton Charge tonight. He is scheduled to make his Maine debut when the Red Claws host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Ricky Davis brings a veteran element to the Red Claws and will undoubtedly become an instant fan favorite at the Portland Expo where many of our fans will remember him from his days with the Celtics,” Red Claws president and general manager Jon Jennings said in the press release. “Ricky is someone who knows what it takes to get to and stay in the NBA and is someone who is hungry to return there. We are all excited to welcome him to Maine.”

Davis, 32, has played in 736 NBA games. He was a first-round draft pick (21st overall) by the Charlotte Bobcats. In his 12-year NBA career, which began in 1999, he played for six teams, including three seasons with the Celtics.

Davis last played in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2009-10 season. He most recently in France, Turkey and China.
