CHINA — A decision on whether to rescind a fee hike for commercial trash haulers won’t be made before the increase is scheduled to go into effect Sunday.

Selectmen will again postpone discussion of the results of last summer’s survey concerning the transfer station, which they have said they need to review before considering commercial trash hauling fees.

Town Manager Daniel L’Heureux’s advance agenda for Monday’s meeting includes only preliminary results of the survey, with a note that discussion will continue at the next meeting.

A boost from one to four cents for commercial trash haulers is due to go into effect Sunday. It had originally been slated to begin July 1, but was delayed after protests from the four haulers who pick up trash from town residents.

Selectmen agreed to increase the fee in March, multiplying by four the rate charged to haulers, meaning a ton of trash would go from $20 to $80.

Vassalboro hauler Tom Richards has attended several recent selectmen’s meetings, sometimes with his colleagues, to ask board members to reconsider the Jan. 1 increase. L’Heureux and selectmen said they wanted to review the survey results first.

The survey of China residents asked about recycling habits and invited suggestions for promoting recycling and for re-allocating solid waste costs. Tabulation has taken a long time because so many residents offered suggestions and comments, L’Heureux said.

The main item selectmen will discuss Monday is the proposed 2012-13 budget.

The board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Town Office meeting room.
