FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue led by 15 after one quarter and went on to upset Messalonskee, 47-37, in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A girls basketball game Tuesday night.

The Cougars led 19-4 after one quarter, but Messalonskee pulled within 26-22 by halftime. Mt. Blue still led by four points after three quarters, and got the win by holding the Eagles to four points in the fourth quarter.

Gabby Foy finished with 17 points while Jaycee Mullen added 13 for Mt. Blue. The Cougars are 4-3 this season after winning four games combined the last two seasons.

“It’s a regular season win,” Mt. Blue coach Tom Philbrick said. “We already know we’re capable of this or more. We have felt all along that we should contend. The girls have put their time in. They’ve paid their dues. We hope to be able to compete every night with every team.”

Messalonskee (5-2) was led by Megan Pelletier with 12 points and Shelby Cutten with nine. Point guard Mary Badeen was on a college visit and did not play.

“She’s a player, and she’s one of their leaders, but that can’t take away from what we accomplished tonight,” Philbrick said.

Skowhegan 53, Brewer 51: Desiree Brochu’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Indians the KVAC  A win in Skowhegan.

Amanda Johnson led the winners with 15 points while AJ Martino scored 14 and Chelsea Whittemore hauled in 11 rebounds.

Skowhegan is 6-1, Brewer is 2-5.

Forest Hills 68, Valley 42: The Tigers scored in 40 points in the second half to pull away for the win in Jackman.

Kori Coro led all scorers with 18 points for Forest Hills (6-1). Dana McNally added 14 points, Anna Carrier chipped in with 12, and Keely Taylor and Jocelyn Hoyt scored nine apiece.

Hali McQuilkin had 14 points for Valley (1-5).

Nokomis 59, Maranacook 29: Kylie Richards had 18 points as the Warriors rolled to their seventh straight win, in Newport.

Anna Mackenzie, Kelsie Richards and Lindsay Whitney each added eight points for Nokomis (7-0).

Hannah Clough scored 15 for Maranacook (3-4).

Rangeley 61, Buckfield 22: Emily Carier led three players in double figures with 13 points as the host Lakers coasted to the East/West Conference win.

Taylor Esty added 12 points and Chantelle Carrier had 11 for Rangeley (6-1).

Danielle Patrie scored eight points for Buckfield (3-4).

Belfast 44, Maine Central Institute 37: The Huskies cut in to a 13-point halftime deficit but the Lions held on for the win in Pittsfield.

Lexi Nelligan scored 18 points for Belfast (3-4). The Lions outscored MCI 14-6 at the free throw line.
MCI (1-6) was led by Ashley Kitchin, with 11 points.

Brunswick 54, Erskine 38: Julia Champagne scored 12 points and Melanie Bryant added 11 to lead Brunswick to the Eastern A victory in South China.

Liz Folkner added 10 points for the Dragons (4-4).

Meryl Bond scored 12 points and Bridgette Humphrey added seven to pace the Eagles (1-6).
