CAMBRIDGE — A 43-year-old Harmony man accused of shooting at a Cambridge resident Thursday night was free Saturday after posting $20,000 cash bail.

Stacy L. Gourley was charged with aggravated reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon after a confrontation Thursday night, the same evening the alleged victim’s Dexter Road home was set on fire, according to Det. Lt. Carl E. Gottardi II of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Gottardi said the State Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing to investigate the blaze and the district attorney’s office is reviewing the matter; further charges may be forthcoming, said the lieutenant.

At 10:38 p.m. Thursday, Deputies Jeremy Leal and Don Avery and Maine State Police troopers responded to 614 Dexter Road after gunshots were reportedly fired outside the home.

Before officers arrived, the one-story wooden home with an attached garage was reported to be on fire and Cambridge firefighters were also dispatched to the site.

The incident began, said Gottardi, when a man driving a vehicle on Dexter Road reportedly fired a gun in front of the home of the alleged victim.

The same man, Gottardi said, was reported to have walked around the home before being confronted at the front door by the homeowner.

During the confrontation, the man police later identified as Gourley reportedly pointed a handgun at the homeowner’s head, then ran across the lawn, turned back toward the homeowner and fired the gun, said the lieutenant.

After Gourley reportedly fled, Gottardi said the back of the home was reported to be on fire.

Gourley was later arrested at a home in Harmony, said Gottardi, adding that firearms and a motor vehicle possibly used during the alleged crime were located during a search of the Harmony house.

Sgt. Ken Grimes of the State Fire Marshal’s Office said Friday the fire, which caused extensive damage, was intentionally set outside near the back of the house. The investigation is ongoing.

Gourley is scheduled to appear March 7 in Somerset County Superior Court on the charge of aggravated reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
