I would like to commend Republicans and Democrats in the Legislature for working together on the state budget. They demonstrate a mature and thoughtful approach to addressing the very painful process of cutting the budget.

The same, however, cannot be said of the governor. Paul LePage continues to bully legislators and demean the legislative process. He evidently has no intention of working with the Legislature; it’s his way or no way. This is childish and demonstrates a deep-seated ignorance of how to work well with other elected officials.

I believe it is time again for Republican senators to write another op-ed piece, as they did last year, about the governor’s behavior and his inappropriate attempts to intimidate lawmakers with his threats. They need to stop excusing his behavior by saying he is just frustrated.

Threats and intimidation are two of the primary tools of a domestic abuser; they are likewise destructive to productive working relationships.
