WATERVILLE — The Colby College women’s basketball team will make a run at its third straight trip to the New England Small College Athletic Conference final four starting today with a home quarterfinal game.

The Mules finished the regular season 18-6 and are the No. 4 seed in the tournament. They host No. 5 Williams College in a quarterfinal at 3 p.m. today at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Colby lost to Amherst in the NESCAC title game in 2010 and to Bowdoin College last season. The Mules went to the NCAA Division III tournament both seasons.

Colby beat Williams 62-56 during the regular season.

The Mules are led by Jil Vaughan, who averages 13.2 points and 8.8 rebounds. She scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Williams.

Senior Rachael Mack, a Cony High School graduate, had 17 points and 11 rebounds during the regular season against Williams. This season she averages 13.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She is seventh all-time in career scoring at Colby with 1,219 points.

Also for Colby, Aarika Ritchie is third in scoring and leads the team with 93 assists.

Williams was 14-1 and in the national rankings before 6-foot-3 forward Claire Baecher went down with an injury and was lost for the season. She led the team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.

Jill Greenberg is averaging 12.2 points for the Ephs and also has 99 assists.
