The proposed new police station at Head of Falls may be the worst addition to the Waterville downtown landscape since the sculpture in the Concourse.

Thanks to councilors Fred Stubbert and Erik Thomas for their votes against the plan.

It is never a good move to accept a solution to a problem because it seems to be the last resort, and that is what this is.

To make matters worse, in my mind, is that the proposed building design shows absolutely no imagination. It is simply a box or two shoved together surrounded by a “cookie sheet” parking lot. It’s a disgrace to the city.

The council should rescind this vote and reconsider the whole plan from location to building design.
