MARS HILL — Mt. Abram’s Elise Luce won the Class B giant slalom title, while Maranacook’s Abby Mace won the Class B freestyle title at the state championship meet Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Maranacook boys grabbed a slim lead over Yarmouth in the Class B Alpine championships.

Luce posted the only sub 40 second time in the girls competition, finishing with a two-run time of 1 minute, 18.91 seconds in the giant slalom. Her sister Erin was second, four seconds off the pace.

“The top of the course was tight, then it opened up because it was pretty flat,” Elise said. “I was able to tuck through most of the course, it doesn’t have much of a pitch.”

Yarmouth grabbed an early lead in the giant slalom with 32 points, followed by Camden Hills (36) and Mt. Abram (48).

“I feel good about how the girls skied,” Mt. Abram coach Bob Luce said. “In general, they all feel good about the race, they all finished and skied good.”

Mace toured the Heritage Center freestyle course in 16:03.7 to finish ahead of a trio of Yarmouth skiers who placed just behind her. Maranacook girls were third after the freestyle event. Yarmouth is first, followed by Caribou and Mt. Abram.

Maranacook’s Adrian Huntington (7th) and Caroline Colan (9th) cruised to top ten finishes for the Black Bears. Emma Houston was the top finisher for the Roadrunners crossing the finish line in 14th place.

The Maranacook boys Alpine team placed four runners in the top 10 in the giant slalom Tuesday to take the lead in the Alpine championship. Matt Delmar finished seventh with a time of 1:19.93, followed by teammates Alec Daigle (10th), Alex Tooth (11th) and Kelby Mace (13th).

“There were no major flaws,” Maranacook Alpine coach Ronn Gifford said. “The boys had a good GS race and that is not our strongest suit.”

“This was a pretty flat course, but the good skiers were still the top skiers,” he added. “Hopefully this puts us in a good position for Wednesday.”

MCI’s Gary Kersbergen finished third with a time of 1:18.68, just behind Cape Elizabeth’s Sam and Max Barber.

In boys freestyle, Trent Rosenberg finished ninth for Mt. Abram, which is third in the Nordic competition. Teammate Thomas Farraday is 11th, followed by Jay Chenard (13th) and Nick Carlton (14th).

Jack Elder, of Yarmouth, won the freestyle race in 13:38.9, followed by Caribou’s Caleb Chapman and Yarmouth’s Braden Becker. Yarmouth posted a final team score of 14 points to lead Caribou by 15 points.
