BANGOR — Maine police on Thursday were looking for a couple in connection with the disappearance of a Florida firefighter who had traveled to the state to see a friend.

Jerry Perdomo, 31, of Orange City, Fla., had driven from Florida to Bangor where his rental car was found abandoned on Feb. 17 in a Wal-Mart parking lot, authorities said.

He was last seen wearing a back zip-up hooded sweat shirt, shorts and black sneakers. He’s described as being Puerto Rican, 5-foot-11, about 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Police on Thursday were looking for Daniel Porter, 24, and Cheyanne Nowak, 25. They believe one or both may have had contact with Perdomo. Police said Thursday that the couple may be traveling in a tan, 2005 Hyundai Elantra sedan with temporary Maine license plate 729-257. Earlier in the day, police said they believed they were traveling in a white, 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer with Maine license plate 3710 SH.

The Bangor Daily News reports that Nowak has prior drug and theft convictions on her criminal record. She was convicted of two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and theft by unauthorized taking in April 2007 in Bangor.

Porter has no criminal record, according to a criminal background check using the Maine State Bureau of Identification database.
