SAN DIEGO — California’s attorney general won’t oppose a class-action settlement between Honda Motor Co. and owners of its hybrid cars over inflated claims of fuel efficiency.

The office of Attorney General Kamala Harris doesn’t explain its reasoning in a one-sentence statement today. The statement comes just hours before a deadline for California and four other states to file objections with a San Diego court.

The states asked the judge for more time to consider after a Los Angeles woman won nearly $10,000 this month in small claims court. That’s much more than the couple hundred dollars cash that the settlement is offering.

The statement doesn’t address Iowa, Massachusetts, Texas and Washington. In the past, officials said the states are addressing the case together.
