VASSALBORO — The selectmen’s meeting scheduled for Thursday has been moved to today at 7 p.m. in the Town Office, because of a snowstorm forecast for Thursday.

Agenda items include final action on the proposed 2012-13 municipal budget; continued discussion with Coyote Ridge subdivision residents of plans to resolve issues with their private road; review of bid specifications for summer mowing; and consideration of amending the mileage rate the town plans when employees use their own vehicles on town business.

Thurston Park roadson panel agenda

CHINA — The Thurston Park II Committee meets at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Town Office meeting room. According to committee member Irene Belanger, topics discussed but not concluded at the last meeting include sources for gravel for needed repairs to roads in the park and procedures for clearing trails.

Belanger also said that there will be no federal money for trail work in the park this year. However, the application the committee submitted last fall will be held over for consideration in 2013, if there is money available that year, she said.

Johnson supporters to hold celebration

WALDOBORO — Supporters of newly elected state Sen. Chris Johnson will gather at the Waldo Theatre Annex Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. to celebrate the people who volunteered for the campaign.

Johnson, a Democrat, won the special election for District 20 on Feb. 14.

Anyone may attend the open house event to have a snack and speak with Johnson, supporters and friends, according to a news release.

The Waldo Theatre Annex is on Glidden Street, behind the Waldo Theatre. Parking is behind the theater and also on Glidden and School streets.

State parks event set for weekend

AUGUSTA — Maine state parks will participate in the upcoming Great Maine Outdoor Weekend on Saturday and Sunday with activities highlighting four state parks.

Visitors will be able to participate in snowshoe hikes, cross-country skiing and interpretive programs, according to a release from the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands.

The four parks featuring events are Androscoggin Riverlands State Park, off Center Bridge Road in Turner; Bradbury Mountain State Park on Hallowell Road in Pownal; Mount Blue State Park on Center Hill Road in Weld; and Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park on Wolf Neck Road in Freeport.

The Great Maine Outdoor Weekend is organized by the new Maine Outdoor Coalition, a group of 26 organizations and companies, including the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands.
