AUGUSTA — Maine State Police have discovered a body in the Penobscot County town of Newburgh while investigating the disappearance of a Florida firefighter.

The body was found off Dahlia Farm Road shortly after a search was initiated this morning. The identity of the deceased has not been released. The state Medical Examiner’s Office was on the scene.

A news conference has been tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m.

Police were searching today for the body of 31-year-old Jerry Perdomo of Orange City, Fla., who had been missing since Feb. 16. Police said Perdomo’s slaying was drug-related.

A Bangor man, 24-year-old Daniel Porter, has been charged with murder and is to make his initial court appearance at 1 p.m. Thursday in Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast.

A court affidavit says Perdomo, who was a Seminole County, Fla., firefighter, previously said he’d been threatened with a machine gun and a wood chipper before he went missing.
