FORT KENT — The annual Can-Am Crown Sled Dog Races through the wilds of northern Maine are getting under way.

Dozens of teams are signed up for the three races, which begin Saturday in Fort Kent.

The Can-Am 250, now in its 20th year, begins at 10 a.m. after the shorter 30- and 60-mile races get under way.

The 250-mile race has a purse of $29,000, with the winner not expected to cross the finish line in Fort Kent until Monday morning.
