OXFORD — About 500 people showed up Saturday to compete for 50 blackjack-dealer jobs at the new Oxford Casino.

It was the casino’s first job fair, and they expect to hold more for positions for at the restaurant, as well in security, facilities and administration, casino officials said.

Although the fair was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., about 30 people arrived early, according to the Sun Journal. Applicants had to take a math test to apply for the positions.

“If we can find 50 dealers, we’ll be thrilled,” said casino spokesman Scott Smith.

All selected applicants will also have to attend an eight-week dealer school sponsored by the casino and graduate from that, according to the Sun Jounral.

The job requires both math skills and the right personality, casino officials said.

The Oxford Casino is under construction and is scheduled to open this summer.

Last week, the Gambling Control Board approved Maine’s first full-fledged casino. Hollywood Slots will become Hollywood Casino Bangor and will open March 16.
