SOUTH PORTLAND — President Barack Obama’s visit to Maine later this month has been changed to a larger venue because of demand for access.

The March 30 fundraising reception was originally scheduled to be held at the Portland Marriott in South Portland. About 800 people had been expected to attend the event there.

But a campaign official says tickets sold out so it has been moved to the Hutchinson Union Building at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland, which has a capacity for 1,700 people.

Maine residents had contributed more than $560,000 to Obama’s re-election campaign as of late last month.

The president was last in the state in 2010, when he and his family vacationed on Mount Desert Island.
