SMITHFIELD — Town roads will be getting considerable attention this year after residents approved $870,000 for road work at Saturday night’s annual Town Meeting.

Residents OK’d  borrowing $700,000 to pave and reconstruct Quaker Lane and East Pond and Warren Hill roads, and approved raising $100,000 for prepavement work on the same three roads.

Town Clerk Linda French said the 68 who turned out for the annual meeting also approved raising $70,000, as well as appropriating $26,424 from a grant, for the depleted reconstruction and paving account.

Voters also approved $2,500 for the Smithfield Moonshiners Snowmobile Club and $2,500 for the town’s 175th anniversary celebration in 2015.

The floodplain management and cell tower ordinances also passed.

Smithfield will establish a permit system to review all development in its designated flood hazard areas to be eligible for the National Flood Insurance Program.
