WILTON — A Chesterville man faces multiple charges after being accused of stabbing his girlfriend’s leg with a knife on Friday night, police said.

The man, Carlton Elliott, 23, of 105 Horse Shoe Pond Road, was arrested after police responded to a domestic disturbance call at about 7 p.m. at a Wilton residence, where Elliott and his girlfriend were visiting friends, according to Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox.

Police initially charged Elliott with domestic assault and violation of conditional release, taking him to Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington, Wilcox said.

Meanwhile, the girlfriend on Sunday told police that she had been stabbed by Elliott on Friday, Wilcox said. Police then added charges against Elliott of aggravated assault and obstructing the report of a crime or injury, which stems from the girlfriend saying he had taken her cellphone away when she attempted to call police, Wilcox said.

Wilcox said Monday that the girlfriend was stabbed multiple times in the leg, describing her injuries as non-life threatening. The woman, who police have not identified, was expected to get medical treatment for her injuries on Monday, Wilcox said.

Police found the knife they believe Elliott used to stab his girlfriend when they searched him Friday night, Wilcox said. He had the knife on him and police seized it while making the arrest, she said.

Wilcox said Elliott and his girlfriend were living in a Jay home together before the incident on Friday, but his last known address is the Chesterville residence.

Elliott appeared in Farmington District Court on Monday afternoon when his bail was set at $5,000 cash or $50,000 surety, along with other conditions. Judge Valerie Stanfill rejected his request for release on a Maine Pretrial Services contract, citing Elliott’s criminal record which includes a conviction for assaulting an officer. His next court date is April 13.

Before his most recent arrest Friday, Elliott was out of jail on bail and waiting to be sentenced later this month on a domestic assault charge that involved a person who is not his girlfriend, Wilcox said.

Court records on Elliott were not available Monday afternoon while court was in session, a court clerk said.
