ST. ALBANS — A missing 5-year-old girl was discovered safe in the woods Monday.

Morgan Lawler and a family dog disappeared around 9 a.m. behind the family’s residence at 158 Bubar Road, according to a release from Cpl. John MacDonald, of the Maine Warden Service.

A search party of two airplanes, a Maine State Police tracking dog and several wardens and troopers went to the area and found the girl around 1 p.m. about six-tenths of a mile south of her home.

She was discovered by wardens Jared Herrick and Kim Bates, along with state police Sgt. Jeff Beech and troopers Matt Casavant and Sam Tulmac.

A Sebasticook Valley Ambulance crew checked Lawler, who was not injured. The dog had returned to the residence on its own.
