BANGOR — A legal battle has broken out between two Bangor sandwich shops over the names of certain specialty sandwiches.

In a complaint filed last month in U.S. District Court, the owners of the Coffee Pot Cafe allege that The Legacy Sandwich Shop infringed on their trademark names for their sandwiches and engaged in deceptive trade practices.

The Coffee Pot Cafe is asking the court to award it any profits Legacy Sandwich derived from several similarly named sandwiches, as well as damages and legal fees.

The Bangor Daily News reports the dispute dates to the 2009 closure of another sandwich shop after 80 years in business.

The owners of both shops in the legal dispute employ former workers from the closed store and both claim to have the closed store owner’s blessing.
