ARUNDEL — State police were closely monitoring the condition of Ethan Henderson Monday night to determine whether his father would be charged with assaulting his son or killing him.

Police said the 2-month-old boy was in grave condition with severe head injuries at Maine Medical Center and his prognosis was not good, though a hospital spokeswoman declined to give any information about the boy. Other family members found the boy unresponsive on Saturday morning and called for help.

Gordon Collins-Faunce, 23, of Arundel is being held on $100,000 bail in York County Jail. He was formally charged with elevated aggravated assault and aggravated assault during a video appearance from the jail before a judge at Springvale District Court in Sanford. He entered no plea.

“If the boy should die, the attorney general’s office has already been brought into the loop,” said state police spokesman Steve McCausland. The attorney general’s office prosecutes most of the state’s homicides.

If Collins-Faunce makes bail, he is not allowed to have contact with anyone under 18 or with the child’s mother, Christina Henderson, 23.

The couple’s other two children, Ethan’s twin brother and a 3-year-old sibling, have been taken into state custody by the Department of Health and Human Services. The agency would not comment on the case, citing confidentiality rules.

A state police affidavit describing their case against Collins-Faunce was sealed by the judge at the request of the prosecution.

Collins-Faunce was arrested Sunday night at the family’s home at 521 Limerick Road. The single-story house was quiet Monday, with toys scattered around the front and back yards and a red pickup truck in the driveway.

Collins-Faunce has no criminal record, according to the State Bureau of Identification. He is employed as a flagger for a road crew, McCausland said.
