FARMINGTON — This year’s open art studios will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, May 18, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at 155 Pleasant St. and 382 Barker Road just over the Farmington town line in New Vineyard. Green posters will mark the locations.

Featured will be the artwork of the late Joe Park, as well as Nora West, Janet M. Washburn, Maria Logan, Margie Austin, Joyce Dubay and Su and Richard Johnson.

Park retired to New Vineyard in the 1970s, being a colonel in the U.S. Army. He was well known for his impressionistic style, painting local scenes and historical buildings of the area.

West has lived in New Portland for 35 years, with a life-long interest in art. She paints places with a history or scenes that won’t always remain the way they are today.

Morrill Washburn works on location and paints in watercolor. She enjoys painting Maine’s coast, especially Monhegan Island. She has taught art a number of years at Mt. Blue High School and is the manager of the Washburn-Johnson Gallery.

Logan works in oil and acrylic, sometimes in an abstract format of vibrant color schemes.

Austin paints on location. She is well known for her oil collages of special events and family gatherings, and the many trees that grab her attention.

Dubay is known for her animal subjects, but also paints subjects that surround her including flowers and landscapes in oil, watercolors, or mixed media. She is also an art instructor for Mt. Blue Regional School District’s Adult Education program.

Su and Richard Johnson are husband and wife, both art teachers at Rockland School District and operate a gallery in that area. They also maintain the art tent at the Rockland Lobster Fest each August.

Su works on location using watercolor and pastel. Richard is a sculptor working in clay and bronze.
