BURNHAM — The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were closed for a short time early Friday morning after a logging truck overturned with a load of logs near mile marker 143 in Burnham.

The tractor and trailer overturned after the driver said he swerved to avoid a deer and lost control in the median, according to Maine State Police Trooper Sean Kinney.

The logs were scattered into the median, and the tractor and trailer stopped upside down in both southbound lanes, according to Kinney.

The truck driver, Joseph Paradis, 38, of Millinocket, was taken by ambulance to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield for facial cuts and complaining of rib pain, according to Kinney.

Maine State Police were called to the accident about 1:50 a.m. and the interstate was closed completely for less than 30 minutes around 5 a.m. when the wreckage was moved, Kinney said.

Before and after that, traffic was limited to a single lane and the break down lane until at about 9 a.m. when the logs and other wreckage was removed, he said.

Robin Crawford and Son Woods Co. of Lincoln own the truck.
