LYNNFIELD, Mass. — Haley Pelletier of Oakland was recently awarded a $5,000 Hood Sportsmanship Scholarships presented by Hood Milk during a ceremony at Gillette Stadium. Pelletier will graduate from Messalonskee High School and plans to attend the University of New England.

Three high school seniors from each New England state were honored for their integrity and sportsmanship on and off the field.

The program received more than 2,500 entries and 10 finalists in each state were determined by a general public vote, which was followed by in-person interviews by a panel of judges who identified the top three in each state.

New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins presented the scholarships and spoke to students about the importance of good sportsmanship. The winners were also given a private tour of Gillette Stadium.

Each applicant was required to meet the following in order to participate in the program: minimum of 3.0 grade-point average, participated in a varsity sport in high school, volunteered in his/her community, and displayed a high degree of sportsmanship while participating in sports in high school.
