I cannot believe that enough Waterville city councilors agreed to put a multimillion-dollar police station in a known flood zone.

The flood insurance cost for such a thing has to be well over $150,000 per year and maybe even more.

As a private citizen, I never would be allowed to build in Head of Falls area. There are several places in Waterville to build away from a flood zone, such as land on College Avenue where the old Central Maine Motors was. There is also land where the old Joseph Motors was and the old Furbush Chevrolet was on Kennedy Memorial Drive.

It is hard to imagine that Waterville is bulldozing ahead to build in a known high-risk area. Another flood such as we had in 1987 will happen again.
