Jonny Wilson successfully defended his overall title and Sheri Piers smashed her women’s course record today at the 31st annual Pat’s Pizza Clam Festival Classic in Yarmouth.
Wilson, 24, of Falmouth, barely missed his goal of a sub-24:30 finish, crossing the line with a time of 24 minutes, 31 seconds for the 5-mile race. That was a minute and a half faster than runner-up Josh Zolla, 26, of Freeport (26:00). Chris Harmon, 24, of Scarborough placed third (26:10).
Piers, 41, of Falmouth finished eighth overall in 27:39, breaking the women’s record of 27:51 she set in 2009. Erica Jesseman, 23, of Scarborough was a minute behind in 28:38, and was followed by Sarah Anderson, 30, of Newton, Mass. (30:24).
