Looking back, the Kennedy family has done a lot for this country.

John Kennedy was a great man and president. Bobby was following in his footsteps, but was killed, as was his brother.

As I look back over the last 40 years, I don’t remember anyone in this respected family endorsing anyone for president, except for one man, unknown in this area.

Early in 2008, much to my surprise, the Kennedy family appeared on television. If I remember correctly, Caroline spoke for the entire family as she talked about Barack and Michelle Obama and the great things he was destined to do.

I figured if he had proved himself to this family, it was good enough for me. Has he lived up to the Kennedy family recommendation? Heck, yes.

In his first year he won the Nobel Peace Prize.

He went after and took down America’s No. 1 enemy, Osama bin Laden. Now he’s bringing the troops home and trying to make sure there are jobs for the servicemen and servicewomen.

I have watched almost every president’s State of the Union address. Then I watched this last one and saw parts of the NAFTA trade agreements reversed. Yes, President Obama has earned the respect of at least me and my family. After all, NAFTA was the beginning of the American downfall.

For the betterment of our country, I believe we all should discuss politics with our friends and family at least once a month.

I realize this may be a hard thing to do, but we need to pay attention to what our officials do and how their actions might affect the average person in our daily lives.
