AUGUSTA — Maine’s political parties are facing a deadline to file the names of candidates for Legislature who are replacing those who’ve withdrawn from the race.

The deadline is 5 p.m. today. Local party committees across the state have been holding caucuses to find replacements for those who dropped out.

A total of 48 candidates had withdrawn, including five state Senate candidates and 43 House candidates.

The Secretary of State’s office will post the final list of candidates after today’s deadline for replacement nominations.
