HARRISON — Adam Barre’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a two-run rally that lifted Central Maine to a 7-6 win against Somerset in the championship game of the 13-year-old Babe Ruth state tournament Sunday.

Singles by Ben Smith and Sam Bell and a walk to Curtis Martin loaded the bases for Central Maine in the final inning. Connor Garland, who was named tournament MVP, singled in a run, then Andrew Roderique drew a walk to force home the tying run and set the stage for Barre’s game-winner. Garland finished with a double and two singles for Central Maine while Kyle Dugas and William Simpson each singled three times. Kam Doucette added a single and double and Smith two singles. Barre picked up the pitching win.

With the win, Central Maine advances to the New England Regional this week in Westfield, Mass. They face Rhode Island in an opening-round game Friday.

14-year-old Babe Ruth State Tournament

FAIRFIELD — The Central Maine Hurricanes won the 14-year-old Babe Ruth state championship, beating Midcoast 4-1 in the if necessary game. Midcoast forced a second game by beating Central Maine 10-2 in the opener.

In the championship game, Jared Cunningham and Danny Pooler each singled and doubled for the Central Maine while teammate and winning pitcher Nick Mayo tripled. In the first game, Cunningham, Pooler and Trevor Gettig each had a hit.

Central Maine advances to the New England Regioal for 14-year-olds which begins Friday in Winooski, Vt.
