PORTLAND — Former first lady Barbara Bush is reading books to children at the Portland hospital that bears her name.

Bush is visiting The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center today where she will read to young patients.

While she is there, the children are expected to present her with gifts for her two dogs. She’s also planning to stop by a lemonade stand set up by a 5-year-old boy at the hospital.

Bush, a longtime promoter of family literacy, and her husband, former President George H.W. Bush, spend summers at their seaside home in Kennebunkport, 35 miles south of Portland.
