MONMOUTH—A Litchfield man was injured Monday when he fell off his bicycle on Route 126.

Monmouth Police Officer Robert Wells said the man, in his late 60’s, was taken by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with what were believed to non life-threatening head injuries.

Wells said the accident was initially believed to have involved a vehicle, but Wells said the man fell off his bicycle and was not hit by a car. It appears one of the bicycle tires may have gotten stuck in a crack in the road, Wells said.

The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m., near the Carver Road intersection as the bicyclist was heading south on Route 126. Wells said traffic on Route 126 was briefly reduced to one lane as crews tended to the injured man.
