FARMINGTON — Ashlie Hardy, of Farmington, was recently named one of four nationwide students to be awarded a $2,500 scholarship to further her organic agriculture education.

Hardy won a 2012 Horizon Organic Producer Education program scholarship, which is awarded annually to deserving students who are children or grandchildren of Horizon Organic’s more than 600 family farmers, according to a news release.

Horizon is the first national organic dairy brand to offer a scholarship program designed to build the next generation of organic leaders.

She plans to attend the agricultural and environmental sciences program at McGill University in Montreal, where she will study animal science with a focus on dairy.
