WATERVILLE — The Waterville Republican City Committee decided against holding a caucus Monday when only three people showed up to nominate candidates for city offices.

Chairman Neal Patterson said the committee plans to schedule a meeting to name a secretary and treasurer.

Republicans Monday were to have nominated candidates for City Council, Board of Education, Charter Commission, wardens and ward clerks for the November ballot.

City Clerk Patti Dubois said Tuesday that anyone not nominated at a caucus may still be eligible for the offices by obtaining a petition from her office and gathering 25 to 50 signatures of registered voters in their respective wards. Petitions must be returned to her office by Sept. 7.

The petition process is not required for those seeking warden and ward clerk positions. Anyone interested in those positions is asked to call Dubois at 680-4210.
