FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington recently announced the following events that are free and open to the public unless otherwise stated.

* Evening Flat Water Kayak on North Pond, 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14, Fitness & Recreation Center. Appropriate for all ability levels. Bring your own kayak if possible — a limited number of kayaks will be available for rent. Meet at the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center at 5:15 p.m. Minimum age of 13 or if younger than 13, allowed with pre-approval and adult supervision. Kayak rental $5 or free with own kayak.

* Evening Flat Water Kayak on Porter Lake, 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, Fitness & Recreation Center. Appropriate for all ability levels. Bring your own kayak if possible — a limited number of kayaks are available to rent. Meet at the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center at 5:15 p.m. Minimum age of 13 or if younger than 13, allowed with pre-approval and adult supervision. Kayak rental $5, free with own kayak.

* Local Mountain Bike Trip, 5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21, Fitness & Recreation Center. Bring your bike if you have one; helmets required (FRC has 19 helmets along with 10 bikes available for rent). Meet at the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center at 4:45 p.m. Minimum age of 13 or if younger than 13, allowed with pre-approval and adult supervision.

* Evening Geocaching, 4:45 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 23, Fitness & Recreation Center. Embark on a high-tech treasure hunt around Farmington to find Geo-Caches. Use a GPS tracker to locate hidden treasures and beat the clock before other teams do it first. Meet at the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center at 4:45 p.m.

* Evening Flat Water Kayak on Clearwater Lake, 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28, Fitness & Recreation Center. Get out on the water and leisurely explore a local lake by kayak. Appropriate for all ability levels. Bring your own kayak if possible — a limited number of kayaks are available to rent. Meet at the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center at 5:15 p.m. Minimum age of 13 or if younger than 13, allowed with pre-approval and adult supervision. Kayak rental $5, free with own kayak.

* Evening Flat Water Canoe/Kayak on North Pond, 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, Fitness & Recreation Center. Appropriate for all ability levels. Bring your own kayak if possible — a limited number of kayaks are available to rent. Meet at the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center at 5:15 p.m. Minimum age of 13 or ifyounger than 13, allowed with pre-approval and adult supervision. Kayak rental $5, free with own kayak.
